MTTC consulting program

BBCetc provides commercialization services, including SBIR/STTR training and one-on-one proposal preparation assistance to technology entrepreneurs and early-stage technology companies throughout Michigan. Through a combination of seminars, training sessions, and one-on-one assistance, BBC helps clients progress toward the goal of commercialization of novel products and technologies.

Services include:

• Statewide Outreach

Costs to provide these services are covered in whole or in part by the Michigan Economic Development Corporatioon (MEDC) and the Michigan Small Business and Technology and Development Center (MI-SBTDC). Some services require a co-payment by the client. Details are included in the program descriptions that follow.

BBCetc offers the following services under these programs:

SBIR/STTR and Commercialization Training*
BBC provides in-depth focused training at various locations across the state on topics of particular interest to early-stage technology companies and entrepreneurs. View the current schedule

SBIR/STTR Proposal Development Assistance
BBC can assist in all aspects of SBIR/STTR proposals, including:

• developing an overall grant strategy
• identifying appropriate solicitations
• project planning
• reviewing the full proposal prior to submission

Comprehensive proposal reviews are done by BBC staff and consulting partners on a first-come first-serve basis, provided sufficient time is allowed prior to the grant deadline*. Clients are required to share with BBC information on the proposal review and the grant award decision.

Clients fees apply only if proposal is funded. Fees are $1,500 for a funded Phase I proposal and $5,000 for a funded Phase II proposal.

*Attendance at an SBIR/STTR Seminar is required for additional assistance in writing
and reviewing SBIR/STTR grants.

Business Development Consulting for Life Sciences
BBC provides individual consulting to qualified entrepreneurs and early-stage technology companies seeking management expertise and guidance in the areas of business development and commercialization planning. Qualified entrepreneurs and early-stage life science companies can contract with BBC for individual consulting related to commercialization and business development. The goals of the consulting project are defined by the client and might be directed to any of the following areas:

• strategic business planning
  
• market research
  
• preparing a written business plan
  
• identifying financial and other resources
  
• developing partnerships and collaborations
  
• implementing a marketing and sales strategy
  
• part-time interim management

BBC’s partners have held senior management positions with a number of successful life science companies over the past 25 years in disciplines ranging from medical devices and diagnostics to biotechnology tools and technologies. Through this program early-stage companies can tap into this experience without having to recruit a full time management team. The first 20 hours of business development consulting is provided at no charge. Additional consulting is priced at $87.50 per hour.

Statewide Outreach
BBC travels throughout the state to attend appropriate state and local meetings to promote these programs, recruit clients and additional resources, and provide general information on SBIR/STTR and technology commercialization. Meetings with venture capitalists, academic technology transfer administrators, and others in a position to provide assistance to technology entrepreneurs will be conducted as appropriate to help achieve the goals of the program.
